After Lunch Re-Opening And Review

During a workshop, it's important to always start on-time including after lunch.  We need something that re-connects learners together, re-connects learners to content and that brings them mentally as well as physically back into their workshop.

So, how to do that:

Preparation

  • Prepare the following slide

Six_Letters_Review

How To

  • Display the slide at the stated start time for learners to return after their lunch.

  • Ask them to work in small teams to try and complete the challenge displayed.

  • Allow around 3-4 minutes and if there is no answer by that time, suggest that they do exactly what the challenge states.

  • Allow another minute or so.

  • If teams are still struggling, re-state, "Cross out the letters six letters".  The penny will probably drop now.

  • The word they will be left with in this example is 'banana'.

Making this relevant to your workshop content

  • Select a key word from the mornings content eg for our train-the-trainer workshop it might be 'Review'.

  • Replace the letters that form 'banana' with the letters that spell 'review' et

Becomes

RSEIVXLEITETEWRS

nb the number of letters in your review word doesn't have to have the same number of letters as banana.

Extend this activity by asking teams to offer 3 key ideas/techniques/key points related to the word they just uncovered.
